In Kapitu, North Sulawesi, Manengkel Solidaritas are empowering local women to grow oyster mushrooms which they can sell to make a livelihood and provide nutrition for the village.

It makes for a profitable business and the growing process is accessible for the local people.

Profit straight to the local community

Growing oyster mushrooms makes for a profitable business, with all proceeds going to the local people. In addition, the growing process is very accessible.

Not only will this empower the local women to create their own livelihood, but it also provides a source of nutrition to the rest of the village. Furthermore, the mushrooms can be exported overseas in the long term to countries where vegetarianism and veganism is more prevalent, since they are an excellent meat substitute.
