WHO WE ARE

To date, Manengkel Solidaritas has planned and implemented a range of programs and activities related to coastal and marine resource conservation, coastal community empowerment, community-based management and local government capacity building in North Sulawesi. The organization has full time staff, who are all either of Manadonese descent or were born and raised in North Sulawesi, and who have diverse knowledge and practical skills in fisheries management, community organizing and community-based conservation, environmental campaign and education, mangroves and seagrasses bioecology, and coral reef rehabilitation. Through their commitment and teamwork.
Manengkel Solidaritas has delivered a range of innovative programs and achieved excellent outcomes related to the above-mentioned activities. For example these include the establishment of Community-Based Marine Protected Areas (CB-MPAs) in the villages of Bahoi, Tambun and Lihunu, the restoration of mangrove forests which were previously converted to shrimp ponds or cut for fuelwood in Tarabitan, Arakan and Bahowo Villages, as well as the establishment of ecotourism projects, including a Mangrove Park in Bahowo Village. Whilst most communities are initially reluctant to engage in coastal and marine resource management projects with Manengkel Solidaritas, over time they come to see for
themselves the direct benefits of these projects in terms of improved income from fishing, ecotourism, waste recycling and other activities.
